The world's oldest yoga instructor is also the world's oldest competitive ballroom dancer. Tao at one of her several weekly lessons, with her two dance partners. I'm not sure if they add up to half her age.

October 2018: Launching the new central location for my classes!
Inside the beautiful Westchester Kyokushin Karate & Kickboxing Studio in downtown Hastings-on-Hudson (22 Main Street). Ample street parking as well as a parking lot across the street. Comfortable clothing is recommended and mats will be provided; no other equipment will be required. Classes for all levels - come one, come all! (Sorry about the focus.) I must say that the thing that floored me the most this week was witnessing Tao's sheer stamina, during her 100th birthday week. I had the privilege of being the only eyeballs attending all of her appearances with her, and got a glimpse from her perspective of just how busy she really is. There were four birthday parties in six days, spanning 40 miles of travel, in between which she also managed to take a dance lesson and attend a funeral, all conquered in high heels. It has been less than six months since her hip breakage and surgery. As I have previously experienced during international travels with Tao, full disclosure - I could not keep up! I got ill mid-week from fatigue and actually had to miss a morning of work. I remember someone once aptly giving Tao the nickname of 'Energizer Bunny'; she just keeps going and going and going in her bright pink get-up to the beat of her own drum. And it hasn't been the easiest year for her health either, but she seems to be bouncing back beyond anybody's expectations. If she really is tapping into something to continuously renew and reenergize herself, I'd completely believe it. I shall investigate her secrets further and report back with any findings!
Tao's true 100th birthday - keeping it small among the trio, relaxing over an outdoor meal in City Island. (Thank you to my friend Andrea Lublinski, our amazing photographer, for the shared shots (all the stunning ones).) Tao with Anton, her dance partner 73 years her junior! Nothing like watching Tao dance to the music of Dancing Queen. Reunion of teacher training class of 2013 - the last group of students who will ever be certified by Tao Porchon-Lynch. We're like an endangered species!
The gist (invitation email):
Dearest friends, I hope this message finds you well! I want to invite you to a very special birthday gathering this year. My dearest friend and master Tao Porchon-Lynch and I are throwing a joint birthday celebration! This year marks Tao's 100th on earth (and my 38th). Both of us being Leos (could you tell?), we chose a date near both of our birthdays to share a low-key, easy, intimate, and memorable celebration just among our closest friends. Our friend Fred provided us with the brilliant idea of a boat party (thanks, Fred!). On Friday August 10th 2018, you are cordially invited to join us in boarding a private charter boat for an evening sunset cruise along the Hudson River! Details to follow. Many thanks and hope to see you on board! Tao & Ayako A couple years old now but this still gives me a little thrill each time. Quintessential Tao. (And to think how most people being astonished watching this on TV had no idea about her being a world-class yoga master as well!)
